# Introduction

> Issue and update Apple Wallet and Google Wallet passes from your own backend.

The TapAce API lets your backend issue a wallet pass to each customer, send them a link to add it, and update it after it is saved. One request covers both Apple Wallet and Google Wallet.

## How it fits together

> [card] Templates
>
> A template (`tmpl_…`) is the design of a pass: colours, images, barcode and fields. You create it from one of TapAce's starters in the dashboard designer.

> [card] Passes
>
> A pass (`pass_…`) is one holder's copy of a template, filled with their own values, such as a name or a points balance.

Each template field is either **shared**, with one value for every pass, or **per-pass**, with a value you send when you issue or update a pass. The template's `requiredFields` lists the per-pass fields you must send.

## Base URL

```bash theme={null}
```

Every request is authenticated with an API key, and the key decides whether you work in test or live mode.
